Special Camp Promotion for Northern New Mexico Girls

GIRL SCOUT News:

Several upcoming camp sessions at Camp Elliott Barker in Angel Fire are being offered at a drastically reduced rate for Northern New Mexico girls. Camp sessions are available for $150 – about half the regular cost.

This promotion is available first come, first served, and while space allows. Girls do not have to be members of the Girl Scouts to participate. Campers must submit payment in full by June 27. Discounted camp sessions are available to girls in northern New Mexico for the week of July 13-18. Registration and payment are due June 24. Camp programs available for the discounted rate include:

Mountain Madness (grades 4-7) Ready for some crazy summer fun? Try the ropes course and hit a bull’s-eye at the archery range, enjoy arts & crafts and outdoor cooking. With fun-filled activities by day and starry skies by night, you will have many memories to take back home.

Ropes & Reins (grades 9-12) Whether you want to climb in the saddle or into a harness on the ropes course, this program is for you. Learn to build teamwork at the low ropes course and challenge yourself to the extreme at the high ropes course. Spend time at the stables learning the basics and riding in the arena. You will even have time to tie knots and make a special craft.

Water Seekers (grades 6-12) Do you have gills instead of lungs? Fins instead of feet? Enjoy a week on the water. Start your week swimming and getting used to the water, then set sail in a canoe where you will enjoy a floating lunch and raft the Rio Grande. End the week swimming and paddle-boarding at Eagles Nest Lake.

ProChef Challenge (grades 5-10) Ready to take the cooking challenge? Spend the week learning and preparing exciting and impressive dishes. Learn knife skills and culinary mastery and apply your new skills in the Barker Challenge Kitchen. Prepare your best for the judges and take home a souvenir cookbook so you can share all your favorite recipes with family and friends. You will also have time to participate in other favorite camp activities.

To register, fill out the registration form online at www.nmgirlscouts.org/barker-promotion.aspx

Outdoor experiences are an integral part of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience (GSLE) for girls of all ages. Outdoor activities are woven into the core leadership development program to help girls build confidence and acquire new skills in a safe and supportive all-girl environment.

Whether it’s for a day, a week, or longer, Girl Scout camp gives girls an opportunity to grow, explore, and have fun in a natural setting under the guidance of caring, trained adults. To learn more about the benefit of outdoor experiences for girls, or to join Girl Scouts, contact the Girl Scouts of New Mexico Trails at 505.343.1040 or visit www.nmgirlscouts.org.
