SOS Reminder: Campaign Finance Reports Due Today

Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver

From the Office of the Secretary of State:

SANTA FE – Secretary of State Maggie Toulouse Oliver reminds all candidates, campaign committees, and political committees that they are required to submit their Fourth General Election Report by 11:59 p.m. today, Thursday, Dec. 6.

This is the final report of this calendar year and covers the reporting period Oct. 31, 2018 to Dec. 1, 2018.

Current candidates and registered political committees subject to the Campaign Reporting Act (CRA) are required to file their Fourth General Election Report, or a statement of no activity, regardless of whether they won or lost their electoral contest.

Note: any successful candidate who fails or refuses to file a report of expenditures and contributions or a statement of no activity or to pay an existing CRA fine imposed by the Secretary of State’s Office shall not be issued their certificate of election until they have satisfied all CRA reporting requirements and have paid all penalties owed (NMSA 1977 §1-19-35(E)(2)).

Secretary Toulouse Oliver also reminds candidates, candidate committees, and the public at large that, under New Mexico law (NMSA 1978 §1-19-34.7(D)), as of Nov. 7, 2018, new campaign contribution limits are in effect. Details of the new limits can be found on the “Campaign Finance Reporting Information” page of the Secretary of State’s website.

Guidelines for New Mexico’s campaign finance requirements can be found in the 2018 Candidate Campaign Finance Reporting Guide.
