The Los Alamos Ski Club has announced that Skiesta, originally scheduled for Saturday, March 14 has been canceled.
Pajarito Mountain is still open for skiing and snowboarding.
Following the Governor’s public health order regarding large gatherings in a confined space for groups larger than 100, the Ski Club canceled the event and plans to host the event next year.
The ski area is scheduled to remain open until April 5 for skiing and snowboarding, pending weather conditions.
The resort is expecting a refresh of snow this weekend, and the resort is closely monitoring guidance regarding COVID-19.
The Skiesta historic party began in 1948, featuring music, costumes and a 50 cent hot dog lunch. The tradition has continued, celebrating the unique mountain culture of Los Alamos.
“Skiesta has been a tradition since the establishment of the Club, but the health of our community is very important to us all. The tradition will carry on next year, where we’ll plan to party doubly hard.” said Susan Brockway-Hahn, Los Alamos Ski Club member and primary organizer for the event.
