Ski Club 75th Anniversary Celebration Oct. 26

SKI News:

After 75 years, the Los Alamos Ski Club continues to bring the ski community and the Mountain together to benefit Los Alamos. In celebration, the Ski Club is hosting an Anniversary Celebration Weekend Oct. 26 with a dinner at Pajarito Lodge that includes speakers and volunteer recognition.

The $40 ticket price includes a thumb drive of historical photos, a logo glass as well as dinner catered by the Pajarito Cafe and drinks. Milt Gillespie will deliver the keynote address. Come lift a glass and celebrate this amazing history.

In 1943 a group of Manhattan Project scientists began the Los Alamos Ski Club, the mission was to bring together others that were interested in skiing as a recreational sport.

Later they expanded the Club and interest in skiing by working together to put in a rope tow to create a local ski area at Sawyers Hill. By the 50s the Club moved the ski area to Pajarito Mountain and continued its tradition of utilizing volunteers to bring an incredible skiing experience to the Los Alamos community.

Oct. 27, will begin Pajarito’s last lift served bike and hike weekend. The Cafe will be open and the Club will be hosting a number of historical talks throughout the day on the Ski Patrol, Ski School, volunteer work, and Ski Racing Club. There will be a New Mexico Craft Beer Garden ($10 entry includes Anniversary Logo Glass, tastings and one full pint – IDs required) and DK and the Affordables will be playing their unique tunes, including the original song “Breathless” about one of our most famous runs. Anniversary T-Shirts, stickers and photo montage thumb drives will be on sale.

Oct. 28 will be the last lift serve hike and bike day of the year as well as the Cafe. The Cafe is open Wednesday through Sunday for lunch.

The Los Alamos Ski Club and Pajarito Mountain also will host:
  • ULLR Fest at Pajarito Mountain Sept. 29;
