DIXON ― Monday, June 4, New Mexico State Police Agents were processing the surveillance video evidence that was recovered from the homicide scene.
During their investigation, agents discovered a video clip that was recorded before State Police was called Wednesday, May 30, 2018. The video showed a man enter and burglarize the residence.
Through extensive investigation by State Police agents the man in the video was identified as Rede Stanton (39) of El Prado, NM. The video shows Stanton arrive at the residence and discover the deceased bodies. He then goes back to his vehicle puts on gloves, gets a crowbar, and makes entry into the residence. Inside the residence Stanton is seen on video burglarizing money and narcotics from the bedroom where the deceased bodies lay.
When questioned by agents Stanton admitted to the burglary and said he was afraid to report the murders. State Police arrested Stanton, charging him with Burglary (3rd degree felony), Larceny (3rd degree felony) and Tampering with Evidence (4th degree felony). Rede Stanton, who also had two outstanding and unrelated warrants was booked into Taos County Detention Center with no bond.
This case is being treated as a separate crime. State Police currently has no reason to believe that Stanton had involvement in the murders. The investigation of this incident has not compromised the original homicide investigation. No further information is available at this time.
