Sixteen Athletes Qualify for State Games

Mary Billen (road race and track); Ernie Bryant* (pickleball); Margie Candler (airgun); Abel Castillo* (horseshoes, rec events, shuffleboard, table tennis); Dave Delanoy* (pickleball), Don Dudziak (airgun, shuffleboard); Cy Jakubowski* (bowling, field, rec events, swimming); Pat Jakubowski (bowling); Tim Johnson* (field, racewalk, track; Susan Krohn* (huachas, shuffleboard, swimming); Jackie Peckham* (huachas, shuffleboard); Ann ReVelle* (table tennis); Inez Ross* (road race, talent); Richard Thompson, Jr.* (cycling, road race); Bob Weeks* (field, track); and Ted Williams* (bowling, road race).

Twelve athletes went on to the State Games in Roswell June 12-16 where they brought home 33 medals: 12 Gold, 17 Silver and four Bronze.

Inez Ross and Susan Krohn are currently in Cleveland competing in the National Senior Games. Krohn is competing as a swimmer in the 50 and 100 meter backstroke and freestyle races and Ross is competing in the 5K Road Race.

It has just been announced that Krohn, swimming with a cast on her broken arm, received 29th place in the 50 yard back with a time of 1:44.85 and 20th place in the 100 yard breast with a time of 4:26.09.

Ross received fourth place in the 5K Road Race with a time of 50:12.2.

Local athletes were honored at a Celebration Luncheon at the Betty Ehart Senior Center Tuesday, July 9.

Anyone over 50 is invited to participate in next year’s games set for April 15-May 15. Registration is in March. Contact local coordinator Ann ReVelle at 662-3526, for more information.
