SCIENCEFEST News:

Have you noticed the flurry of activity at the entrance to town?

Led by Fuller Lodge Art Center art instructor Olivia Snyder, her class of 12-14 year old artists are transforming Entrance Park and creating a façade of the iconic main gate from the Manhattan Project era. Entrance Park will function as an information booth for ScienceFest Saturday, July 18.

The only science festival in the state, Los Alamos ScienceFest is a 5-day festival that celebrates Los Alamos, New Mexico as a center of science and creativity. The festival will feature mind-blowing demonstrations, interactive exhibits, science and math based art, discussions, historic tours, a drone competition, STEM workshops and a model rocket launch from July 15-19 in Los Alamos.

The majority of ScienceFest events are free. This year attendees can register to win a Go-Pro camera at the information booth.

ScienceFest culminates with Festival Day at Ashley Pond 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 18.

A highly anticipated special feature at ScienceFest this year, The Drone Zone will take off 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, July 18 at Ashley Pond. At the festival drone masters can bring their own drones and compete on an agility course for a chance to win the grand prize. The event, sponsored by The New Mexico Tourism Department and facilitated by Bradbury Science Museum, will also offer a chance for beginners to try their hand at flying mini drones. Don’t miss this New Mexico True Event!

Also during Festival Day, Saturday, July 18, Ashley Pond will be transformed into a music venue during ScienceFest Lyrics and Libations. This brew fest is noon until 6 p.m. and will feature Don Quixote Winery and Distillery, Tractor Brewing, Abbey Brewing and Los Alamos’ own Bathtub Row Brewing Co-op which has brewed up a special ScienceFest Pale Ale for the event. The bands include the Kodama Trio at Noon, the Broomdust Caravan at 2 p.m. and DK & The Affordables at 4 p.m. Beer and wine will be sold to those 21 and older, with an ID.
