Sign Up Today For October EcoChallenge

When you hear about the fires in California, or see pictures of people and animals surrounded by plastic waste, when you watch refugees fleeing drought and starvation all over the world, do you wonder if there are changes you can make in your daily life that would make a difference?

Are you looking for ways you can live more sustainably, reduce your impact, and improve your life, your community and the planet? Even small, personal actions have a global impact, the legendary flap of a butterfly’s wings that starts the storm that ends Somalia’s drought, and the EcoChallenge is a fun way to start those actions.

Los Alamos County Environmental Services, LAC Green Team, Zero Waste Los Alamos team and the LA EcoChallenge team invite you to join the EcoChallenge, Oct. 3-24. Using an online platform (developed by the Northwest Earth Institute), participants choose a challenge and take action each day for three weeks. There are many challenges to choose from in the areas of energy, waste, water, transportation, simplicity, community, health, nature or food, or design your own! Taking action on your challenge, as well as building teams and sharing your progress with others, helps you accrue points.

In addition, the EcoChallenge website has personalized dashboards which will show you the impact of your actions in real time so you’ll know how much energy you are saving by not doing something as simple as washing laundry with hot water.

The EcoChallenge is free and open to everyone. Participate individually, or build a team with your class, orchestra, church, work group, Scout troop, neighborhood, bridge club, babysitting coop, or beer coop. Challenge other Los Alamos teams and compete for prizes awarded at our EcoChallenge Celebration. The combination of collective inspiration, camaraderie and friendly competition makes change a little easier — and a lot more fun. Find out how small actions can add up to real change for a healthy, vibrant and sustainable future!
