Sign Up For YMCA Earth Service Corps This Summer

YMCA News:

YMCA Earth Service Corps is an innovative service-learning Summer program that gives middle school youth the opportunity to develop leadership skills and create a more sustainable future.

Committed youth, YMCA staff, and adult volunteers work together to plan and carry out service learning projects that promote positive environmental and social change. Youth develop as leaders, learn about the environment, get involved with their communities and, most importantly, LEARN BY DOING!

Participating in YESC is a unique opportunity for youth and adults to work together to improve their communities. Adults act as mentors and advisors to the youth as they work side-by-side on environmental projects. Youth have fun and earn Service Learning Hours while working towards a healthier tomorrow.

The mission of the YMCA Earth Service Corps is to empower students to become effective, responsible, global citizens by providing opportunities for environmental education and action, leadership development, and cross-cultural awareness.

The Family YMCA’s Summer YES Corps program is for youth entering 7th and 8th grade who are ready to develop and practice leadership skills, learn about constructive environmental projects, foster social awareness and open-mindedness through cross cultural experiences, and be engaged in our community by doing hands-on collaborative service projects with our partners.

Each of the 8 weeks of YES Corps will have a different service project focus located at a variety of work sites in and around our community. Youth may sign up for any or all of the weeks this summer, but must attend and participate from 8 a.m. – noon each day Monday-Thursday during the weeks selected.
