SFNF News:
SANTA FE – The Cuba Ranger District on the Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) has closed Forest Road (FR) 7 to motorized traffic for the safety of forest visitors.
Recent monsoonal weather patterns saturated the road, washing out a portion of it and exposing a culvert on the downhill side.
The road will remain closed indefinitely under a regional closure order while the SFNF repairs the damage from runoff and resolves drainage issues. With more showers and thunderstorms predicted, the area is at higher risk for debris flow and flash flooding.
The restricted area on FR 7 is off N.M. 112 near Alkali Springs, about 30 miles north of the Cuba Ranger Station. During the closure, there is no access to Gallina Mountain via FR 5 and FR 6. Barricades have been placed on FR 7 and signs have been posted to notify the public that this segment of FR 7 is closed to motorized traffic. Visitors on foot may enter the area but should maintain situational awareness and use caution.
