The Santa Fe Institute (SFI) presents community lecture “Understanding Genius: The Neuroscience of Extraordinary Creativity” at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, July 15, at James A. Little Theater, 1060 Cerrillos Road.

How does one define extraordinary creativity? Is creative genius a product of nature or nurture? And can those of us who are less creative enhance the creative capacity in ourselves and others?

Andreasen uses neuroscience to analyze the connections between extraordinary creativity, intelligence, the social environment, and mental illness.

Using her extensive research on the subject, including her early Iowa Writer’s Workshop study and her current study of award-winning artists and scientists that uses neuroimaging to examine brain structure and function, Andreasen provides fascinating insights on human potential and the creative mind., which has been adapted into more than two dozen independent theatrical and musical productions.
