SANTA FE ― The Santa Fe Community College Chorus teams up with the SFCC Chamber Singers to perform a Winter Choral Concert of seasonal music at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 5.
The concert is free, open to the public, and takes place in the Jemez Rooms on the SFCC campus, 6401 Richards Ave.
The program features the performances of chorus and chamber students who have participated in choral classes and rehearsals during the past semester. Musical pieces include the rarely performed Hanacpachap cussicuinin, an anonymous hymn to the Virgin Mary in the Quechuan language but in a largely European sacred music style composed before 1622.
The performance will also feature traditional seasonal songs including Ocho Kandelikas – a Hanukkah song sung in Ladino, Vittoria Aleotti’s Ave Maria, Samuel Barber’s Sure on This Shining Night, and Harry Belafonte’s Turn the World Around.
The choral concert is presented by the Music Program of the School of Arts, Design and Media Arts. Singers will be accompanied by pianist Lydia Clark and directed by music educator and SFCC adjunct faculty member Dr. Priscilla Zimmermann.
