Sept. 12 Los Alamos Historical Society Lecture Postponed

COMMUNITY News:

The Sept. 12 evening lecture of the Los Alamos Historical Society at Fuller Lodge has been postponed. A new date will be announced soon.

When rescheduled, the lecture will feature Nancy R. Bartlit, World War II historian and author, examining Imperial Japan’s delayed responses to the Allied demands to surrender, during which time Japan lost two cities to atomic bombing and Russia invaded Manchuria. And the delays continued. At many previous talks, Bartlit has been asked, “Was the second atomic bomb necessary?”

Following her remarks, John C. Hopkins, former associate director of the Los Alamos National Laboratory, will close the lecture speaking on the research activities of several Japanese universities on their nuclear weapons program during World War II.
