By Sen. Richard Martinez
I want to express my gratitude to the League of Woman Voters from Los Alamos for inviting me to participate in the forum sponsored by them last night (Thursday) and also to the members of the Los Alamos community who were in attendance.
It gave me pleasure to have the opportunity to participate and I sincerely enjoyed meeting with you to discuss some of the important issues that we are faced with finding solutions for.
I share the same concerns about our valuable resources: water, the environment and the education of the youth in our district and state.
During my tenure, I have always tried to focus on finding solutions to some of these issues by appropriating the needed funding that provides the necessary financial support to continue with solving these issues.
Over the past 11 years, I have brought:
- $2,385,000 for Education (Public Schools and the Community College)
- $1,312,500 to provide infrastructure funding of Clean Drinking Water Systems in many rural areas throughout District 5
- $994,000 to provide for upgrades/improvements to water distribution systems (Acequia Associations) used by many of the farm and ranch constituents to sustain their livelihood. These improvements are also necessary to avoid losing volumes of precious water as it makes its way to where it is needed.
I believe that working together, we can face the issues and solve them. I am always available to listen to your concerns.
