The Los Alamos High School Hilltalkers and the Los Alamos Middle School Hawktalkers speech and debate teams will be hosting The Peak Tournament at Los Alamos Middle School 3-9:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 23 and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 24.
Additionally, a Model Congress Tournament will be held 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Friday, Sept. 23 at Fuller Lodge. Speech and Debate teams from across the state will converge on Los Alamos to speak and debate for titles in the first full speech and debate tournament of the season.
Los Alamos Middle School coach Sherri Bublitz and Los Alamos High School coaches Margo Batha and Christine Engelbrecht are seeking volunteers to judge speech and debate rounds, or to donate food to feed visiting coaches and volunteer judges.
Approximately 100 judges are needed to volunteer a total of 300 hours. Judges can be anyone over the age of 18 in any profession. Volunteers may or may not be associated with Los Alamos Public Schools. Judges must commit to a minimum of two volunteer hours. A variety of snacks, entrées and beverages are needed to feed the 300 judges and roughly 30 coaches who will be volunteering their time at the tournament. Donations of disposable plates, silverware and napkins also are welcome and appreciated. Food and drink donations are needed at 3 p.m., 5 p.m. and 7 p.m., Friday and 7 a.m., 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., Saturday.
