A magical evening of food, entertainment, and fun for all ages – is back by popular demand this summer.
The Mexican-themed event will be held from 5-9 p.m., Saturday August 6, at Fuller Lodge. Tickets are now on sale at the Blue Window Bistro or online at The cost is $40 in advance/$50 at the door for adults, $20/$25 for teens 13-17, and children 12 and under are free. Last year the event, which is a fundraiser of the Los Alamos Rotary STARS, sold out all 200 tickets.
The 2nd Annual ¡Fiesta Los Alamos! will feature a Mexican buffet of delectable foods prepared by the Blue Window Bistro. Non-alcoholic refreshments included in the ticket price will be provided by Ruby K’s, while the Blue Window Bistro will host a cash bar with festive selections.
A slew of activities will keep all ages entertained for hours. A kids section, organized by the Interact Club, a group of high school Rotarians, will have the kids swinging at a piñata, walking for cakes, enjoying an open-air movie, and more. While the kids are content, adults can enjoy the musical performances of roving mariachis and the colorful display of folkloric dances.
Of course ¡Fiesta Los Alamos! wouldn’t be complete without it’s popular “Mercado”, back again this year and better than ever. The Mercado simulates a Mexican market, at which Fiesta-goers can purchase authentic Mexican pottery and beautiful blown glass sets, among other items. Kids can use tickets to purchase maracas, sombreros, and other fun toys typically found in Mexico.
No fundraiser would be complete without a bountiful silent auction, and a live auction featuring a few high ticket items. “We’ve been overwhelmed by the response we’ve received so far from local businesses,” said Kimberly Selvage, a member of Rotary STARS and one of the event’s key organizers. “They have been extremely generous with their support for ¡Fiesta Los Alamos!”.
A special thanks goes out to our Gold Sponsor, The Blue Window Bistro. Selvage added that sponsorship opportunities still exist, and any organization interested in making a cash or in-kind donation is encouraged to contact her at
¡Fiesta Los Alamos! is a fundraiser of the Los Alamos Rotary STARS, a satellite group of the Rotary Club of Los Alamos. STARS, which stands for Service To All Rotary Satellite, was formed nearly four years ago to offer an alternative meeting time and format for those interested in community and international service through the Rotary Club organization. Since its inception, STARS has built up its own repertoire of service projects near home, as well as abroad.
For the past three years, STARS has sponsored the transportation costs for 4th graders to take swim lessons as part of their PE curriculum, a public school program that suffered from budget cuts several years ago. STARS also supports local sports teams, including a Rotary STARS Little League team, and the Los Alamos XTreme football team. In return, these teams have donated their used equipment for STARS to take across the border to Juarez, Mexico, where local kids eagerly accepted the donated items so they can start their own sporting teams.
About 18 months ago, STARS began working with fellow Rotary Club El Camino Real in El Paso, TX to undertake service projects in Juarez. The two clubs have worked closely together since, and STARS members have made four trips across the border to assess needs and determine where their help can have the greatest impact. STARS is working with social workers at a Juarez children’s hospital, to help provide comfortable and safe lodging options for parents of sick children who are forced by poverty to sleep on the street outside the hospital. STARS has also supported several life-saving initiatives for children at the hospital.
In addition, STARS works together with a makeshift community center in the poorest area of Juarez, to provide a safe place for local children to engage in activities, do their homework, and receive a hot meal.
Tickets to ¡Fiesta Los Alamos! include dinner, non-alcoholic drinks, entertainment and activities. They are $40 in advance/$50 at the door, $20/$25 for teens 13-17, and children 12 and under are free. The tickets can be purchased at the Blue Window Bistro, or online.
The Los Alamos Rotary STARS is a group of motivated Rotarians who are determined to fit community and international service into their busy lifestyles, while at the same time having FUN! The Rotary STARS meet at 5:30 p.m., every 1st and 3rd Wednesday.
