ScienceFest Rocket Day – Sept. 6 at Overlook Park

Rick Reiss, left, of the Los Alamos Kiwanis fireworks committee and Robb Hermes of Zia Spacemodelers, a member of the National Association of Rocketry, gather electronic parts Saturday, which will be used to ignite individual rockets on Rocket Day Sept. 6 at Overlook Park. Rocket Day is part of Sciencefest. Los Alamos Kiwanis is supplying electronic equipment to facilitate a massive launch of up to 50 rockets in rapid succession. The rockets will be collected and new rockets set up to launch again. The first launch is expected to be at 11 a.m., with more than 200 rockets launched during the day. Many local elementary school students helped make the rockets. Courtesy photo
