LAPS News:

The Los Alamos School Board held a Special Meeting Friday, Sept. 13 to discuss school construction projects.

Board President Jim Hall, Vice President Judy Bjarke-McKenzie and Secretary Matt Williams were in attendance at the meeting held in the newly constructed Los Alamos Middle School. This marked the first official use of the facility.

The School Board authorized District staff to proceed with plans to landscape the area around LAMS. Funding for the landscape was taken from money saved when the original landscape plans were value engineered to a lower cost and from the Construction Contingency Fund, which is available to fund additional costs for the overall construction project.

The School Board authorized District staff to work with Dekker Perich Sabatini (LAMS architect) and McCarthy Construction Company to complete the staff/parent parking lot as designed in the original drawings.

LAMS Principal Rex Kilburn announced that staff was busy moving school materials and supplies into the new school. Students will report to the new school today.

The School Board also authorized District staff to develop a scope and cost analysis to remodel Suite V and W of the District Central Office into a board room and staff training center.
