School Board and College Board Candidates Surface

Two candidates turned out Tuesday morning to file in the County Clerk’s Office for the two vacancies coming on the Los Alamos Board of Education. Rep. Jim Hall, right, is representing the Pinon Elementary School District and Matt Williams is representing the Chamisa Elementary School District. Chief Deputy Clark Sheryl Nichols explained that because both districts are uncontested, polling places will not need to be set up for the February election. Photo by Carol A. Clark/

County Councilor Mike Wismer, center, arrived at the County Clerk’s Office Tuesday morning and began joking with Matt Williams, left, and Rep. Jim Hall who each filed for school board. It turned out that Wismer was there to file a proxy for local resident John Hofmann who is running for one of three available seats on the UNM-Los Alamos Advisory Board. Micheline DeVaurs filed for re-election to the college board and Michelle Hall filed in incumbent Ron Dolin’s district, which is now the only contested seat in the upcoming election. Photo by Carol A.
