LAHS News:

Student Leadership and Student Council spent today making a list of everyone we’d like to thank for a fantastic Homecoming!

Here are some of the highlights:

(And, please forgive us if we have forgotten someone…we are pretty beat from all the events!)

Spirit Days.  Thank you to staff for promoting the Spirit Days in your classes and dressing up yourselves!  We had many, many classes who emailed photos with at least 25% dressing up. The winners of the donuts are Mr. Didier’s 2A class and Ms. Laeser’s 2B class.  Michelle Holland’s 2nd Period didn’t win the drawing but showed such spirit with almost 100% dressing up every day that they will be getting donuts too.  Shout out to LAMS and the elementary schools who also supported dress up days.
Homecoming Court.  Congratulations to Queen Ashlyn Baker and King Dylan Ma. They were crowned by the 1968 Homecoming queen and a member of their court. Thank you to marching band, cross country, and football for adjusting to make sure all of the court members could participate.

Carnations.  Congratulations to Sophomores who sold 300 flowers to raise money for the Winter Ball.  Thank you to the teachers who helped with the distribution of the notes.
Billy Bob and Powder Puff.   Shout out to volleyball and football players and coaches who led Billy Bob and Powder Puff.  Both games were great fun with numerous senior boys and girls playing and lots of students, staff, and community members cheering them on.

Bonfire. Unfortunately, the barrels were tampered with and Los Alamos Fire Department had to cancel the bonfire.  Please let Admin or our SRO know if you have any information.

Pep Rally.  Toppers showed great school spirit with funny skits, games, music, and cheers. Shout out to all the participating groups, especially the cheerleaders and band for their coordination.  Freshmen won the box game and the limbo contest to earn their class 10 points.  After a tight competition in the class chant between Seniors and Juniors, Juniors won the Spirit Stick and 20 points.  And, don’t forget Admin ARE too legit!
Parade.  Thank you to Pomeroy, ReynoldsAdmin, Diana Bequette for organizing the entries and actual floats in the parade.  There were 40+ entries, more than than we’ve had in the past few years.  Thank you to the many of you who helped your team, club, group participate.  Each class had amazing floats this year.  Of the 15 floats that were judged, Freshmen won 1st place, National Art Honor Society were 2nd, and Juniors were 3rd. Thank you to the judges for their time: teacher Anita Boshier, Superintendent Dr. Steinhaus, County Councilor Pete Sheehy, Chamber Director Ryn Herrmann.  And special shout out to the legendary Morrie Pongratz for his stellar announcing skills.
Football Game.  Despite a tough loss for the football team against the Hope Christian Huskies, the stands were totally filled, the band had a great half time show, and students were involved the whole game.  Thank you to everyone who took tickets, tailgated, bought concessions, and cheered on the Toppers, especially the large Student Section and new Teacher Section
Aloha Homecoming Dance.  A record number of tickets were sold, almost 700!  And 672 students came to the dance significantly more than in other years.  30+ Student Council decorated from 9am to noon.  Thank you to Athletics for opening doors on Saturday morning. Special thank you to Mary Grace for her artistic direction as well as the many community members who donated decorations, including a surf board!  Kimberly Engelking and Paul Wilson were amazing checking in and out coats, purses, and shoes all night and Lori Thompson captured 100s of moments at the photo booth.  Dances wouldn’t happen with chaperones so a big thank you goes out to Kathy Boerigter, Karissa Kilgore, Liz Bowden, Isabel Duque, Mike Montano and his whole family.  Most students danced until the very end of the night and then 30+ Toppers stayed and helped clean up.

Lastly, Lathrop and I are very proud of our Student Leaders and Student Council for their hard work.  I read this quote yesterday and knew exactly what it meant after the last week (maybe it’ll inspire you too…):  “What we do for ourselves alone dies with us. What we do for others and the world remains and is immortal.” ~Albert Pike

Be very proud of our students and their stellar school spirit last week!  Go Toppers!
