BIKING News:

This weekend’s premier Los Alamos Rock n’ Roll EnduroFest 2 tested the endurance and skill of the best mountain bike riders in the Southwest.

Enduro racing consists mostly of downhill racing, but with an endurance element. The two day, seven stage event features 2,100 feet of elevation gain and more than 7,100 feet of descending.

Now in its second year, EnduroFest includes two days of events for families and spectators, including a Brewery Beer Festival, live music, after party with complimentary beer and food, and free camping.

The first leg of Saturday’s three stages began at 8:45 a.m. from the ski hill and dropped down to the townsite. The day’s racing featured 1,200 feet of climbing and 2,300 feet of descending. While racers were on route, family and friends visited the Fair and Rodeo Parade down Central Avenue and the festival at Ashley Pond Park.

Following the race, Bathtub Row Brewing Co-op hosted a Brewery Beer Festival in the Central Park Square parking lot with live music by local band Kakistocrats and New Mexico based band, Boris and the Salt Licks. The after-party included complementary New Mexican food from El Parasol for competitors and one complementary beer, with six breweries on tap.

Sunday’s competition continued on Pajarito Mountain with four stages of racing, including a 900 foot climb and more than 5,100 feet of descending. Non-racers visited the rodeo at Brewer Arena on North Mesa.
