UWNNM News:
The United Way of Northern New Mexico (UWNNM) held its annual Community Meeting last month in collaboration with the Los Alamos Chamber of Commerce Business Breakfast.
Community members, businesses and UWNNM’s donors filled Wallace Hall at UNM-Los Alamos to learn about the organization’s new priority focus areas and see the unveiling of its new Community Action Fund Thermometer. Standing six feet tall and enclosed in plexiglass, the thermometer was designed and fabricated by Steven Hand, principal of the family owned and operated, Hand Precision Machining (HPM). The United Way of Northern New Mexico recently hosted an appreciation luncheon for all HPM employees who helped engineer the thermometer.
Each year, the UWNNM’s Community Action Fund distributes hundreds of thousands of dollars in grant funding to nonprofits serving Los Alamos and Rio Arriba counties.
As it has for dozens of years, Enterprise Bank & Trust presented a $25,000 donation to the United Way’s Cornerstone Program, which supports the organization’s operational and administrative activities.
Grants Committee Chair Steve Renfro explained the annual grant cycle and invited community members to participate in the grant review and award process.
Board President Liddie Martinez recognized each of the Board members at the Community Meeting, explaining their role on the Board and their business affiliations.
Metzger’s Do It Best was the first business to contribute to the Community Action Fund this year. For decades now, employees of Metzger’s Do It Best have supported the Community Action Fund with the company’s employee giving campaign. Today, the Community Action Fund thermometer is stationed at Metzger’s in Los Alamos to exhibit United Way’s journey to raise $500,000 for the 2023 Grant Cycle.
UWNNM greatly appreciates donations and gifts via the website’s donate page, by mail or dropped off at the Los Alamos office at 1200 Trinity Dr. on the ground floor of Enterprise Bank.
