Los Alamos Police Department launched its Los Alamos County Safety Town program this morning at Mountain Elementary School.
This free program runs 9 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday, June 15-26 at Mountain for children entering Kindergarten in August.
Safety Town will provide the opportunity for students to learn about several aspects of safety in the hopes of preparing them for the new hazards they will face as they enter school as well as hazards they may face in their neighborhoods and in the community.
These include:
- fire safety;
- bicycle safety;
- animal safety;
- gun safety;
- stranger safety;
- pedestrian safety;
- bus safety; and
- drug safety.
The participants will meet guests each day who will teach them the safety basics that revolve around their work. They also will get the opportunity to get up close and hands on in a police vehicle, fire truck and learn how to call 911 for help, how to approach safe community adults if they are lost or hurt, and how to ride on school and county buses.
