Robert Villa Benevolent and Protective Order of the Elks #2083 served as Master of Ceremonies for this year’s Memorial Day Ceremony held Monday at Guaje Pines Cemetary in Los Alamos.

The Color Guard for this year’s event was furnished by the Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks – Lodge #2083, Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8874, The American Legion Post 90, The American Legion Auxiliary Unit 90, Knights of Columbus 4th Degree, Donald A. Larson Assembly 0688, Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8874, Sons of the American Legion Squadron 90, The American Legion Riders Post 90, Chapter 19, The Military Order of the World Wars Chapter 229, Los Alamos Masonic Lodge Pajarito Lodge #66, Girl Scouts of America, Boy Scouts of America and LAHS NJROTC.

Fr. Glenn Jones of Immaculate Heart of Mary Catholic Church, a former Captain in the United States Marine Corps, delivered the Invocation and Benediction at Monday’s ceremony. Guest of Honor Vernon Kerr, Corporal 1950-1952, delivered the address. Lauren Partin sang the “The Star Spangled Banner” and “America the Beautiful” and members of the LAHS NJROTC and Boys and Girls Scouts of America led those gathered at the ceremony in the Pledge of Allegiance.

Los Alamos County Community Service Organizations participated in the Placing of the Wreaths. Ethan Aulews performed “Amazing Grace” on the bagpipes and Troy Matevia of American Legion Post 90 performed taps.

All participants and those present at Monday’s Memorial Day Ceremony were invited to gather at the ELKS Lodge at 1601 Trinity Dr., for hot dogs, beans, salsa, chips and apple pie.
