LAHS News:

Wednesday May 27, kicked off the unprecedented Los Alamos High School “individual” graduation ceremonies on the back lawn behind the high school.

School staff methodically planned out the series of events for each senior and their family. Coordination of the event was led by Renee Dunwoody. Even in these uncertain times, LAPS did a fantastic job of making graduation special for everyone involved.

LAHS will graduate all 279 Seniors between May 27 and May 29.

LAHS Principal Carter Payne announced each graduate while LAPS Superintendent Kurt Steinhaus formally concluded each ceremony.

Each Senior was allotted 5 minutes for their ceremony. When the Senior and their immediate family arrived (wearing masks), they drove up to the stage, stepped out of their vehicle, put on their cap and gown, and prepared to receive their diploma.

Meanwhile, family gathered to the side of the stage, maintaining a safe distance from the small group of school staff who were present.

Just as in a classical Graduation ceremony, names were called and the diploma received. The Senior then moved their tassel from right to left and ended by tossing their cap in the air.

Editor’s note: Watch for more graduation coverage over the next couple of days in the Los Alamos Daily Post.
