SPORTS News:

In one of the most beautiful days for an opening track & field meet in memory, the Los Alamos High School Boys and Girls teams traveled to Albuquerque Academy for Saturday’s Chile Quad with Albuquerque Academy, St. Pius and Sandia Prep.

The boys had a great start to the season and placed 2nd to Albuquerque Academy in the 4 team meet. LAHS had one state qualifier in senior, Liam Johnson in the pole vault. Johnson vaulted a personal outdoor best of 13’9″ and moved into 4th place in the all-time LAHS top 10 Track and Field records.

Next weekend the team plays at the Rio Rancho Rust Buster.

Senior Nathaniel Ortega out-leans an Albuquerque Academy runner in an exciting finish to the 4x400m relay.  The ‘Topper ‘A’ team (with teammates and seniors Isaac Timmerman, Chris Buntain, Kai Coblentz) won the event in a time of 3:36.1. Senior Liz Lockhart completes the handoff to anchor Ona Gartz in the 4x100m relay. The ‘Toppers (with teammates Claire Ticknor and Alissia Haagenstad) won this event in a time of 51.49 seconds, narrowly missing the state qualifying mark of 51.40 – very good for the first meet of the season.
