SANTA FE — Santa Fe Pro Musica (SFPM) presents the Borromeo String Quartet (“simply the best”—Boston Globe), 3 p.m. March 6 at the Lensic Performing Arts Center in Santa Fe, performing quartets by Adolphus Hailstork and Claude Debussy.
Pro Musica’s artistic director Anne-Marie McDermott will join the ensemble in performing Béla Bartók’s Quintet in C Major for Piano and Strings, Sz. 23.
As part of Pro Musica’s Community Engagement Program, the quartet will be giving a masterclass at the Lensic at 10 a.m. March 6, featuring the Abraham Franck String Quartet, the University of New Mexico’s student ensemble comprised of select graduate students.
Attending the class is free and open to the public (adherence to Lensic Safe Events policies is required).
About the Borromeo String Quartet:
Named after the picturesque Borromean Islands in Lake Maggiore in Northern Italy, the Borromeo Quartet is currently in residence at the New England Conservatory, the Taos School of Music, the Heifetz International Music Institute, and previously with National Public Radio’s Performance Today.
They were prize winners at the International String Quartet Competition (France), also winning an Avery Fisher Career Grant, the Lincoln Center’s Martin E. Segal Award, Young Concert Artists International Auditions, and the Cleveland Quartet Award. Admired and sought after for its fresh interpretations, this quartet has been hailed for its “edge-of-the-seat performances” (Boston Globe). Read more here.
About Anne-Marie McDermott:
McDermott is a consummate artist who balances a versatile career as a performer, recording artist, and arts administrator. She performs over 100 concerts a year at music festivals (Santa Fe, Mostly Mozart, La Jolla, Caramoor, Aspen, others), chamber music series (Lincoln Center, others), and is featured in concertos with most major American orchestras. She is the artistic director of the famed Bravo! Vail Music Festival, the Ocean Reef Chamber Music Festival (Florida), the McKnight Chamber Music Festival (Oklahoma), the Avila Chamber Music Celebration (Curaçao), and Santa Fe Pro Musica. She studied at the Manhattan School of Music and was a winner of both the Young Concert Artists and Avery Fisher Career Grant competitions. Read more here.
