After getting routed by an all-star team comprised of players from around the Albuquerque metro area, the Los Alamos Hilltopper boys lacrosse team took the field against Santa Fe Prep Tuesday afternoon, dropping the match 13-5 when all was said and done.

Santa Fe Prep opened up the game with an early goal to take a 1-0 lead. ‘Topper John Charles answered with quick strike to tie the game at one apiece midway through the first quarter.

The game would remain a stalemate until the Blue Griffins struck for a quick goal in the last minute of the first quarter for the 2-1 lead.

Santa Fe Prep built on their lead with three goals in the second quarter, blanking the Hilltoppers to take a 5-1 halftime lead.

The wheels came off the bus for Los Alamos in the third quarter as Santa Fe Prep scored five goals to jump out to a 10-1 lead before James Flesner stopped the bleeding, scoring a goal just before the end of the third quarter.

The ‘Toppers looked like they were about to make a run with two quick goals by Peter Janke and Jacob Dunwoody to open the fourth quarter, cutting the Blue Griffin lead to 10-4, but Santa Fe Prep answered with two goals of their own.

Dunwoody would score another goal for Los Alamos before the Hilltoppers dropped the 13-5 contest.

The young Hilltopper team has struggled this season after finishing as the runner up in the championship game last year, losing several players to graduation.

The last home match of the season is 10 a.m. today at the Los Alamos Middle School field.
