SANTA FE – The Santa Fe National Forest (Forest) Supervisor’s Office and all Ranger District offices will close Monday, Oct. 8, in observance of Columbus Day.
Normal business hours will resume Tuesday, Oct. 9.
Forest personnel expect a good number of visitors over the holiday weekend. If you plan to visit, please follow “Leave No Trace” principles:
- Plan ahead and prepare;
- Travel and camp on durable surfaces;
- Dispose of waste properly;
- Leave what you find;
- Minimize campfire impacts;
- Respect wildlife; and
- Be considerate of other visitors.
If you plan to enjoy the fall colors, visit https://www.fs.usda.gov/detail/santafe/home/?cid=fseprd597823 for information.
Know before you go. Check the weather forecast and be prepared for seasonal fluctuations, including rain and the potential for flash floods. Use good judgment and basic safety precautions when hiking, fishing or camping in the Forest. Although fire danger is decreased, campfire safety and prevention is always a priority. Never leave a campfire unattended, and make sure coals are cold to the touch before leaving the area.
Also, conditions are typically favorable for prescribed burns during spring and fall months; therefore be aware of potential smoke impacts should you plan to visit the forest.
