GoDOCS News:

SANTA FE  Global Outreach Doctors (GoDocs), a humanitarian organization of MDs, RNs, DOMs and other professionals led by Naturopath Dr. Andrew Lustig of Santa Fe is about to deploy a team of 12 March 29 to the Syrian/Jordan border.

The Zataari Refugee Camp just passed its third anniversary and shelters more than 120,000 men, women and children. GoDocs along with its partner, Syrian American Medical Society, will bring aid and supplies to more than 1000 refugees each day in the encampment through April 12.

“We have a highly skilled team of doctors and other medical professionals heading to the Syrian border in Jordan,” Lustig said. “The Zataari camp is underserved and stretched beyond its limits. It grew exponentially, and still more than 80 babies are born each day. We’re going to work long hours during our two-week stay to relieve as much suffering as possible.”

Now in its fifth year, the war in Syria has evolved into outright suppression of anyone who does not support the Assad regime. An estimated 300,000 to 400,000 people have lost their lives—primarily as a result of regime bombing and prison torture. Approximately 4.8 million Syrians have fled the country while another 6.6 million have been displaced around the world. Syria has lost roughly half of its doctors. In 2012, the Assad regime made it illegal for medical facilities and staff to provide care for anyone in opposition to the government.

The GoDocs team will bring doctors from New Mexico, Colorado, Kansas, New York, California, Washington and Vancouver, Canada to the border. What sets GoDocs apart from other medical humanitarian organizations is their approach: the team of professionals includes MDs, acupuncturists, homeopathic practitioners and, sometimes, canine search-and-rescue groups.

GoDocs is completely volunteer-based and relies completely on donations to serve those less fortunate. To learn more and help fund the deployment to the Syrian/Jordan border, visit here.
