Santa Fe Community College: Fiber Optic Technician Course

SANTA FE – After conducting several successful fiber optic training courses in 2022 which graduated over 80 new certified fiber optic technicians, Santa Fe Community College will host two additional five-day fiber optic training courses.

This is a hands-on intensive program that gives students the opportunity to earn three certifications from the Fiber Optic Association. The program is free for residents of Santa Fe county. 

The first session takes place 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily Aug. 28 through Sept. 1, the second runs Oct. 16-20. Students are encouraged to apply for one of the sessions as soon as they can. The credentials earned will remain valid for three years, after which the student may renew them.

Students can earn the following certifications: 

  • Certified Fiber Optic Technician 
  • Certified Fiber Optic Specialist in Splicing 
  • Certified Fiber Optic Specialists in Testing and Maintenance.  

Local employers include Ward Cabling, LLC, Continental Divide Electric Cooperative, Kelly Cable, Vexus Fiber, and Facebook Contractors. 

Requirements to participate: 

  • High School Graduate or Equivalent (GED) 
  • 18 years of age or older 
  •  Able to attend one entire bootcamp and paid internship 
  •  Provide proof of COVID vaccination 
  • Santa Fe County resident ($2,500 per student for Non-Santa Fe County Residents)
