COMMUNITY News:

SANTA FE — The Sangre de Cristo Chorale opens its 46th Season with a concert 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 14 at St. Bede’s Episcopal Church in Santa Fe.

The 36-voice Chorale is led by Interim Music Director Dr. George Case and is accompanied by pianist Deborah Wagner.

The first concert of the 2023-2024 season will feature two 20th century masterworks celebrating pastoral beauty and farm life through the eyes of Welsh poet Dylan Thomas and American poet Robert Frost. Pieces by Samuel Barber and Irving Fine round out the concert.

Case is interim music director for the Sangre de Cristo Chorale and selected the repertoire for the concert.

“This concert includes some of the most notable and best-loved choral pieces and I’m excited to be able to share them with the singers and the audience,” Case said. “We’re thrilled to be able to present the luminous Fern Hill, which will feature Desert Chorale mezzo-soprano Sarah Nickerson as soloist. In addition, the complete Frostiana offers an opportunity to hear the full set of Randall Thompson’s interpretations of Robert Frost’s well-known poems, including those that aren’t regularly performed. The Sangre de Cristo Chorale represents the best of community music making in northern New Mexico, and audiences and singers alike can expect an exceptional musical experience combined with a joy of music making, reflecting the spirit of community at the heart of all of SDCC’s endeavors.”

Tickets cost $25 for adults and students under 18 are free. Tickets are available online. This concert is the first of four concert cycles for the 2023-2024 season.
