Sangre de Cristo Chorale News:
SANTA FE — The Sangre de Cristo Chorale continues its 46th Season with its holiday concerts, A Winter’s Night, at 7 p.m., Friday, Dec. 1 and at 4 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 2 at St. Bede’s Episcopal Church in Santa Fe. The 36-voice Sangre de Cristo Chorale is led by Music Director Dr. George Case and is accompanied by pianist Deborah Wagner.
A Winter’s Night celebrates the holiday season and dark of winter with traditional choral favorites and compelling works by current composers, including music by Norwegian-American composer Ola Gjeilo, American composers Eric Whitacre and Ryan Murphy, and English composers Ralph Vaughan Williams and Cecilia McDowall.
As stated by Dr. Case, “The repertoire for this concert includes some of the most beloved carols for the season in McDowall’s Christus Natus Est and Vaughan Williams’ Fantasia on Christmas Carols, plus five Hebrew Love Songs written by Hila Plitmann and set to music by Eric Whitacre.
In addition, pieces by Ola Gjeilo, Tundra, Northern Lights, and Serenity evoke the mystery and magic encountered on the darkest of cold winter nights, with ethereal dissonances resolving into magnificent harmonies and back again. We look forward to sharing these stunning pieces with choral fans who may not have heard them previously and look forward to rejoicing in the holiday spirit with the traditional favorites.”
Tickets cost $25 for adults and students under 18 are free. Tickets are available online at sdcchorale.org. This concert is the second of four concert cycles for the 2023-2024 season.
