San Ildefonso Road Utility Work Begins Nov. 28

COUNTY News:

Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities plans to install a gas line along San Ildefonso Road to create a loop that will enhance natural gas capacity and reliability in North Mesa.

The two-month project is scheduled to begin Nov. 28, following Thanksgiving.

The department’s contractor will be working Monday through Friday 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. to install gas lines along San Ildefonso Road from the roundabout at Diamond Drive to just past Hawk Drive. The lines will then be connected to loop the system between the Los Alamos Middle School and San Ildefonso Road. Crews will work in the shoulder of San Ildefonso Road’s west-bound traffic lane that then heads north toward the roundabout.

While both lanes of traffic on San Ildefonso will remain open, the sidewalk will be closed and pedestrians will be rerouted around the construction site. At some point during the project, the contractor will bore across San Ildefonso Road near the Diamond Drive intersection. Both lanes of traffic will remain open as this work occurs. There are no planned interruptions in gas service to customers. Some weekend work is anticipated.

The project is estimated to be complete by February 2015. Some cleanup work, seeding and tie-in connections will take place in the spring, weather permitting. The project map and updates can be found on the County website at http://www.losalamosnm.us/projects/utilities/Pages/ReplaceSanIGasLine.aspx.
