It’s hard to believe that summer is gone, and that another school year has begun. Our attention now shifts to the upcoming school board election. I am thrilled to announce that we have 2 school board candidates!  Sondra Wyman for District 5 and Sean Stanfield for District 3. If you believe that parental input should be valued, transparency and accountability matter, and meritocracy counts, then please vote for and support our candidates. Early voting starts on Oct. 10. Both have children who have been educated in our school system, are vested in our community, and will ensure that academic excellence and our children’s well-being continue to be top priorities.

Our upcoming events:   

RPLA Central Committee meeting at 6 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 21, at Open Door Bible Church (2101 Trinity Dr. Ste A-2). All registered Republicans are invited to join. We will hear a School Board update from Sondra Wyman, Community Development Advisory Board (CDAB) update from Robert Day, and a County Council update from Councilor David Reagor.

Save the date for our “Meet and Greet and Support our School Board Candidates” at SALA (2551 Central Ave.), 5:30-7:30 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 5. The community is invited, especially parents and teachers. Invite your friends and bring a snack to share.

Please register for our Constitution Day Dinner at Cottonwood on the Greens, 5-8 p.m. Saturday, Oct.  14. If you have new items or gift cards to donate for our silent auction, please contact  jmckerley@comcast.net. Drop off locations will be 700 Meadow Lane in White Rock and 800 Trinity Dr. Ste B in Los Alamos.
