Rotary Members Participate In Holi Festival

Rotarians Laura Gonzales, Jessie Conrad and Jim Nesmith celebrate Holi Day, a communal celebration of colors, during Sunday festivities at Fuller Lodge. The event was sponsored by Sirphey owner Prashant Jain. Members of the Rotary Club of Los Alamos were on hand to tell participants about Rotary International’s impressive success in eradicating polio worldwide with small exceptions in Afghanistan, Pakistan and Nigeria where war and distrust of Western medicine limit vaccination programs. Polio is a contagious virus that causes muscle wasting and paralysis. It is easily preventable. In the planning of this festival, Jain expressed gratitude to Rotary for its efforts to eradicate polio in India, which was declared polio free by the World Health Organization (WHO) in March 2014 because no cases of wild polio had been reported for five years.
