BRADBURY News:
Robots from LANL’s Hazardous Devices Team and the Los Alamos Bomb Squad demonstrated impressive skills such as frisbee throwing during Friday’s Robotics Night @ the Museum.
Community members observed the robots in action in the parking lot adjacent to the Bradbury Science Museum on Central Avenue at 15th Street in downtown Los Alamos. Demonstrations continued inside the Museum with a “Robot Zoo” for people of all ages. Community members seized the opportunity to operate robots by remote control, learned what a robotic arm is all about and how to get involved in the exciting world of robotics.
“Downtown Friday Nights” events such as the Robotics Night @ the Museum is sponsored by the Los Alamos Creative District in coordination with local businesses and cultural organizations.
The Bradbury Science Museum hosts approximately 40 interactive exhibits that trace the history of the WWII Manhattan Project, highlight LANL’s current and historic research projects related to defense and technology, and focus on Laboratory research related to national and international economic, environmental, political, and social concerns. These exhibits together with extensive educational and community programs draw nearly 80,000 visitors a year.
New exhibits now open at the Museum include Nanotechnology: The Science of the Small, and Algae to Biofuels: Squeezing power from pond scum.
There is no charge to tour the Museum, which is open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 1-5 p.m. Sunday and Monday. The Museum is closed Thanksgiving, Christmas, and New Year’s Day.
