Robinson: Reflections On Elections

By JAMES ROBINSON
Los Alamos

I want to begin by congratulating Sheila Shiferl on her election last night. It was a great contest, and I wish her all the luck in her new position. UNM-LA deserves no less than all of her energy and talents going into the future.

It is always hard to wake up the day after all the hard work, time and energy spent suddenly ended. Just over two weeks ago, I got to celebrate the approval of the Mil Levy for UNM-LA. Today, however, I would be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed, BUT, there are things I can say I am proud of.

Just two year ago, I finished the race with only 147 votes. Last night, 614 people put their confidence in me. That was a great feeling, and I want to thank my previous supporters as well as those who gave me their confidence!! I promise, this is not the last you will hear of me!

I will always be around to give my time and energy to UNM-LA. I will welcome any chance, elected or un-elected, to help the university. I will also continue to give everything I can to Los Alamos. I plan to continue to serve on the Environmental Sustainability Board, work with PEEC through Land of Enchantment Wildlife Foundation to help make Los Alamos a bear friendly community, and any other ways I can.

Again, I want to thank everyone who came out and voted. Our republic requires participation, and Los Alamos always shows its willingness to show up!

On to the next adventure!
