Rocky Mountain Youth Corps (RMYC) is volunteering Saturday, Oct. 4 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Wilderness Act.
RMYC and The Wilderness Society will partner with Bandelier National Monument to make some much-needed improvements on the Upper Crossing Trail of Frijoles Canyon, which suffered major damage as a result of heavy flooding after the Las Conchas Fire of 2012.
This project highlights the historic accomplishments of the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) during 1936-1941 and RMYC’s continued service in our public lands. The desired outcome is to improve this trail so more hikers have access to the park and wilderness. The Monument protects archeological sites, a diverse and scenic landscape, and the country’s largest CCC National Landmark District.
This is just one of many projects celebrating 50 years of America’s Wilderness. For more information, visit http://www.wilderness50th.org.
