Rio Arriba County Advisory: High Wind Warning Until 8pm

Rio Arriba County Emergency Services has issued this morning a high wind warning for the surrounding area.


Take action to secure trash cans, lawn furniture and other loose or lightweight outdoor objects. Extremely hazardous driving conditions can be expected, especially for motorists in high profile vehicles who should consider delaying travel.


  • What – West winds 25 to 45 mph with gusts up to 60 mph expected.
  • Where – Southern Sangre de Cristo Mountains area.
  • When – Until 8 p.m. MDT today.
  • Impacts – Damaging winds may blow down trees and power lines in some areas. Widespread power outages are expected. Travel will be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
  • Severity – Severe … significant threat to life or property.
  • Urgency – Responsive action SHOULD be taken soon (within next hour).

Los Alamos:

The National Weather Service in Albuquerque forecasts a slight chance of sprinkles after noon today with a high near 58. West wind 15 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph. Tonight a slight chance of sprinkles before 3 a.m. Partly cloudy, with a low around 33. Northwest wind 15 to 20 mph decreasing to 5 to 10 mph after midnight.
