ALBUQUERQUE – Today, former New Mexico State Rep. Rick Miera is officially announcing his candidacy for Lt. Governor, saying because he believes now is the time to have bold and responsive leadership in state government that will invest in the futures of all New Mexicans.
Miera brings a wide range of every day and legislative experience with him on the campaign trail including 40 years as a therapist, drug counselor, behavioral health advocate, and education champion.
“I am running for Lt. Governor because New Mexicans deserve leaders who have the courage to make the bold decisions we need that will get our state moving again,” Miera said. “We live in a state that is rich in resources, culture, history and a resilient ‘can do’ spirit. I will fight for policies that support our families, our communities and hardworking individuals, and will put facts ahead of political party or ideology. As an elected leader for 24 years, Miera pressed for an education agenda, promoting educational excellence for all New Mexico’s youth and protected our public schools from corporate privatization. As chairman of the House Education Committee, he sponsored and assured the passage of legislation supporting educators and parents so that all of New Mexico’s students have access to a high-quality education, regardless of income or zip code. Miera said he strongly believes that a well-educated workforce is the foundation of a thriving local economy.
