Dear Friends:

Spring is finally here, and I look forward to more community outreach events with the warmer weather!

Congratulations to Sam Ledoux, who was elected City Councilor in Espanola! I met him several years ago as a fellow NM delegate to the RNC, and am proud of his strong campaign which focused on local issues, such as crime and drug abuse. Congratulations to Councilor David Reagor, who filed for re-election to our County Council and will keep small businesses and our public utilities central to his campaign. It is important that our elected officials continue to vote for business-friendly policies and support our Mom & Pops. Thankfully, our House Legislature voted down SB 3, which would have removed the ability of small business owners with 5-49 employees to make critical staff decisions and would have punished entrepreneurs, restaurant owners, and health care providers for acting in the best interest of their livelihoods.  In Senator Brantley’s words, it would have been a “wide-open invitation for fraud with limited guardrails” to harm small businesses and raise taxes on hard working New Mexicans.

Even with limited resources and manpower, many small business owners provide good benefits and paid sick leave, amid a labor shortage. Currently, companies with 50+ employees, public agencies, and all public schools are subject to the Family and Medical Leave Act. As the largest employer in Northern New Mexico, LANL provides generous maternity and parental leave benefits for their employees.  It is simply unrealistic and unworkable to force a business with 5 employees to do so. If you would like to see our small business community survive and thrive, then re-elect David Reagor! Mark your calendars for our Ward E barbeque on May 11, when you will have a chance to ask questions, volunteer, and donate to his campaign. RSVP to chair@losalamosgop.com

The Los Alamos Federated Republican Women will host their annual tea event on April 27. Enjoy tea, sweets, savories, and friends, and bid on a silent auction. For more information, contact:  losalamosfrw@gmail.com
