Republican Wendy Laird filed Tuesday morning for the Los Alamos County Clerk position … not realizing her fellow Republican Naomi Maestas, who has worked at the Los Alamos County Clerk’s Office for nearly a decade, was going to run as well. Maestas filed Tuesday afternoon.
At Thursday evening’s Meet & Greet event at UNM-LA for local and state GOP candidates, Laird announced that she has decided to withdraw her name from the race and throw her support behind Maestas. Amy Woods is running for County Clerk on the Democratic ticket.
I have been blessed to be a resident of Los Alamos County for over 40 years and when the opportunity to run for county clerk came about I made the decision to step up and take a stronger leadership role in serving my community.
I realized that I would have some huge shoes to fill. Sharon (Stover) is a wonderful person who has done amazing things with the county clerk’s office. I am proud to say that I have known Sharon for many years, and watched her grow representing Los Alamos County with grace and dignity.
Currently, as Director of Operations with ZIA companies, I supervise and organize multiple companies within ZIA; ZIA Home Health, ZIA Property Management and ZIA Professional Maintenance. With these multiple companies comes a great deal of responsibility and organizational skills. All of which I would apply to any opportunity I am given.
With this being said, once I was informed of Miss Naomi’s (Maestas) choice to run for County Clerk, I made the difficult decision to withdraw my declaration and support Naomi in the election.
Please know that I am still committed to becoming more involved with the Republican Party and possibly running for a future office.
I want to sincerely thank James Chrobocinski for his support and faith in me.
