U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján
CONGRESSIONAL News:
WASHINGTON, D.C. – U.S. Rep. Ben Ray Luján of New Mexico’s Third District released the following statement today in celebration of LGBT Pride Month.
“This June as we celebrate LGBT Pride Month, we recognize the ongoing fight for equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender individuals. The LGBT community makes tremendous contributions to New Mexico and our nation, and should be afforded the same rights and protections that all Americans deserve.
“The determined spirit of the LGBT community has led to important advances in the cause for equality, and this month is an opportunity to remember the tireless efforts of all those who have contributed to this effort. But our work is far from over.
“In New Mexico, employers cannot discriminate based on sexual orientation or gender identity, but there are 32 states that do not offer these protections. I am proud of New Mexico’s leadership, and we must continue until all members of the LGBT community have equal rights across the nation.
“This month we proudly reflect on the progress that has been made for LGBT rights, and express optimism for the future.”
