Relay For Life Volunteer Meeting 6 P.M. Thursday

LAMC News:

A volunteer committee meeting for the Los Alamos Relay For Life is 6 p.m. Thursday, May 21 at Los Alamos Medical Center.

Volunteers are needed for the event planning committee to ensure the Aug. 21-22 American Cancer Society Los Alamos Relay For Life is a success, organizers said.

The American Cancer Society Relay For Life represents the hope that those lost to cancer will never be forgotten, that those who face cancer will be supported, and that one day cancer will be eliminated. Relay For Life is a team fundraiser to Fight Back against cancer.

“Relay For Life is a community owned, volunteer driven event that is as much an awareness raiser about the progress against cancer as it is a fund raiser,” said Manuel Luna, Relay for Life event manager. “Individuals who are willing to give their time and energy to this exciting event, as a volunteer or participant, have made a commitment to fight back against this disease and let the community know that you can beat cancer.”

Relay For Life is a family oriented, team event where participants walk around downtown Los Alamos and Ashley Pond overnight. Teams of cancer-fighting enthusiasts will gather and camp out at Ashley Pond on August 21 and 22 to show their support. Volunteers from the Los Alamos community are needed to assist in the event planning.

The evening events include a Survivor Lap and a Luminaria Ceremony to honor and remember loved ones. There will be food and entertainment for the whole family. There will be many fun things for the kids to do, with activities for adults planned throughout the evening.

Volunteers are needed to organize and recruit teams, seek community support and underwrite, coordinate logistics, obtain food and refreshment donors, plan entertainment, and lend their support in any way.
