Recruitment Underway For Art In Public Places Board

COUNTY News:

The Los Alamos Art in Public Places Board (APPB) is accepting applications for a vacancy on the Board.

Applicants must be Los Alamos residents.

APPB terms are for two years. The next 24 months will be an exciting time as the Art in Public Places Board finalizes installation of several public art pieces and begins the search for new projects. The board recently celebrated the installation of colorful benches and matching lighted sculptures in front of the Los Alamos Community Building.

Board activities include organizing calls for art and artists, collecting community input, managing the current public art collection, collaborating with other board members, and contributing creative ideas for future Art in Public Places projects.

The Art Board meets at 5:30 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of each month and is a fun and collaborative team that has a history of successfully bringing public art to Los Alamos.

Some other recently completed APPB projects include the creation of an artistic educational display on the second floor of the Municipal Building using artwork from the former Smart House plus the installation of Carry the Light, a large hanging dichroic glass sculpture at the Los Alamos County Golf Course.
