Readers View: Why There Is Only One Choice For District Attorney

Los Alamos

With the craziness at the national level and so much focus on our legislative races, it is easy to forget about some of the crucial down ballot races happening.

Although my political consulting firm is not representing Maria Sanchez-Gagne’s campaign, I am personally endorsing her for District Attorney and am asking for a moment of your time to explain why she deserves your support as well.

Maria Sanchez-Gagne

With a district that spans the counties of Los Alamos, Rio Arriba and Santa Fe – experience is beyond critical. From 1996-2000, Maria served as an Assistant District Attorney before taking on the role of Assistant Attorney General and then Director of the Border Violence Division. Maria was born and raised in Santa Fe and is a lifelong Democrat with a proven track record of holding violent criminals responsible and addressing shortcomings in our legal system.

Besides having the most impressive resume and proven track record amongst the three candidates, why Maria? Well … it isn’t personal because they are all great people – it just comes down to facts. One candidate is 32 and lacks the experience necessary to lead such a high profile office and the other is a Republican turned Independent who was appointed by Governor Martinez and recently made the switch to Democrat to try and retain the seat.

So … here is what I am asking of you today.

First and most important, that you seriously consider voting for Maria. She was recently endorsed by every labor group in the Northern New Mexico Central Labor Council, Alan Webber, Rep. Carl Trujillo, and more.

Second, that you consider attending a Wine & Cheese Party for Maria 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday, May 17 at Karyl Ann Armbruster’s home at 605 Totavi St. in Los Alamos with Los Alamos County Council Vice Chair Susan O’Leary, Councilor Kristin Henderson, Karyl Ann Armbruster, Tarin Nix, Amy Storey, Kyle Wheeler, Pat Beck and Kathy Taylor.
