Raffi Andonian will deliver his “Money Talks” presentation Aug. 31 and Sept. 1 at Family Strengths Network, at 3540 Orange St. Los Alamos.

This complimentary financial seminar is designed to teach parents and grandparents how to talk to their kids about personal finances and turn everyday situations like shopping, doing chores and receiving gifts into valuable lessons that can be used throughout the child’s life.

“Kids learn about money from their parents. It’s amazing how much they’re absorbing, even before they can talk,” said Andonian, who will bring countless age-appropriate ways to introduce financial concepts. “It’s important to start early when kids are receptive.”

Family Strengths Network is a private, non-profit organization that has served the families of Los Alamos and Northern New Mexico since 1989 through their Family Resource Center and programs. Every week they offer programs for adults, teens, parents with children of different age groups, and special needs children. They also provide useful resources to families through their toy and book lending libraries.

By offering the Money Talks workshop, the staff at FSN hope to give valuable financial information to the community. They also hope that the seminar will lead up to their Financial Peace University series starting Sept. 8.

“You’re creating a culture of good finances for your family,” FSN Executive Director Carrie Fanning said. “Keeping finances straight provides families with safety and security.”
