Memorial Services Set For Token Adams

The Southwest Incident Management Team has announced a memorial service scheduled for fallen firefighter Token Adams. 

Captain Token Mark Adams, 41, passed away Friday, Sept. 6, 2013.

The service will take place at 10 a.m. Thursday, Sept. 12 at Calvary of Albuquerque, 4001 Osuna Road NE in Albuquerque. Inurnment will follow at Vista Verde Memorial Park, 4310 Sara Road SE in Rio Rancho.

Shallow Communication Line Uncovered on 15th Street

Due to uncovering a shallow Century Link communication line, the concrete work on the 15th Street road project scheduled for this past week has been delayed. North Sage at 15th Street remains closed through Tuesday, Sept. 10 to allow fresh concrete to cure. North Oakwood Loop at 15th remains closed through Tuesday, Sept. 10 to allow fresh concrete to cure. Nectar Street at 15th Street is closed for the installation of concrete pavement on the east end of Nectar adjacent to 15th Street. The work zone encompasses the easternmost 75 feet of Nectar.

Smith’s Marketplace: Contractor Utility Work on Trinity between Knecht and DP Road:

The south eastbound lane on Trinity Drive will be closed between Knecht and DP Road starting Monday, Sept. 9. Expect congestion and plan for delays, especially during the evening commute. Alternate routes are recommended. This work will continue through November 2013.

Are you thinking about taxes while you’re enjoying the warm summer months? Not likely ... but the IRS wants you to know that scammers ARE thinking about taxes and ways to dupe you out of your money.

Tax scams can happen anytime of the year, not just during tax season. Three common year-round scams are identity theft, phishing and return preparer fraud. These schemes are on the top of the IRS’s “Dirty Dozen” list of scams this year. They’re illegal and can lead to significant penalties and interest, even criminal prosecution.

Holding Hope: Suicide Awareness and Prevention Week

Sept. 8-14 is World and National Suicide Prevention Week.

The first local event is "Mental Health and Suicide." This talk is geared for adults and will be held noon to 1 p.m. Monday, Sept. 9 at Family Strengths Network, 1990 Diamond Dr. Join Los Alamos Family Council (LAFC) therapists, Steve Koch, MA, LMHC, Amanda Schneider, MA, LMHC, and Mike Wallington, MA, LPCC, in a discussion about substance abuse, mental health, and suicide.
