Los Alamos Residents Die In Friday's Plane Crash

ESPAÑOLA – New Mexico State Police confirms the deceased in Friday's plane crash are identified as Karen Ann Young, 46, of Los Alamos, and Thomas Spickermann, 47, of Los Alamos. Young is believed to have been the pilot and Spickermann the co-pilot.

The Remos GX light sport airplane (tail number N28GX) crashed around 4:30 p.m., Friday in the vicinity of the Ohkay Owingeh Airport near Española.

The Federal Aviation Administration arrived this morning to conduct an investigation into the cause and nature of the crash.

SANTA FE — Gov. Susana Martinez has appointed Scott Weaver as secretary for the New Mexico Department of Public Safety (DPS).

Weaver has more than two decades of law enforcement experience, serving as an officer with the New Mexico State Police from 1994 to 2015, prior to his appointment by Martinez as deputy secretary of DPS. His appointment follows the departure of former DPS Secretary Greg Fouratt, who recently stepped down to become a U.S. magistrate judge in Las Cruces.

Los Alamos Fire Department Forms EMS Bike Team

The Los Alamos Fire Department has formed an EMS Bike Team. This new team will enable our EMTs to quickly reach patients who may be located in an area not easily accessible by our ambulances. 

LAFD first got the idea for the team by observing the police bike team working the July 4 celebration at Overlook Park in White Rock.
