Prescribed Burn Planned On Santa Fe National Forest

SFNF News:

Fire managers on the Santa Fe National Forest are planning to conduct a prescribed burn in the Santa Fe Watershed on the Española Ranger District. 

The prescribed burn was postponed last spring due to high winds and ”red flag” weather conditions, which could have resulted in extreme fire behavior. 

Fire managers would like to complete the Santa Fe Watershed burn by the end of September, but that window is dependent on favorable conditions, including fuel moisture levels, air quality and weather forecasts, and may be extended further into the fall months.

ALBUQUERQUE – The Magistrate Judges Association elected new officers last week during the annual Magistrate Judges Conference in Albuquerque.

Newly elected officers include:

  • President – Santa Fe County Magistrate Court Judge George Anaya Jr.;
  • Vice president – Valencia County Magistrate Judge John R. Chavez; and
  • Secretary-Treasurer – Los Alamos County Magistrate Judge Pat A. Casados.

Aug. 28 at 7:58 a.m. / Police arrested Javier Medrano-Duarte, 32, of Los Alamos near Barranca Road and El Conejo and charged him with concealing his identity.

Aug. 28 a 4:36 p.m. / Police arrested Koby Leeches, 18, of Los Alamos a 751 Trinity Dr., and charged him with shoplifting and issued him a summons to appear in court.

Bench Warrant Sweep Collects More Than $150,000

ALBUQUERQUE — For the fourth year in a row, Gov. Susana Martinez announced the success of New Mexico’s annual child support bench warrant round up.
This year’s program collected more than $150,000 in unpaid child support.
“The bench warrant round up is an invaluable tool in standing up for New Mexico’s children,” Martinez said. “The round up delivers real, meaningful results for children and families, and it sends a clear message that if parents don’t fulfill their financial obligations to their kids, law enforcement will hold them accountable.”
